Jan FABRE

Jan Fabre (born on 14 December 1958 in Antwerp) is a Belgian multidisciplinary artist: visual artist, author and theatre-maker (director/choreographer). He champions an approach of ‘consilience’ — that is, a way of working that brings knowledge and practices into dialogue across several disciplines.

In the visual arts, he is known above all for his blue ballpoint-pen drawings — the series known as Bic-Art — and for an imaginative world steeped in entomology (scarab beetles, metamorphoses, our relationship with the living world). His work often explores transformation, the tension between beauty and violence, and the figure of the artist as a ‘warrior’ of beauty.
