Anselm Kiefer

Peinture · 1945

Anselm Kiefer, born in Donaueschingen, Germany, in 1945, ranks among the most important artists of our time. A painter of memory and history, his monumental, densely layered canvases — lead, ash, straw, earth, shellac — summon mythology, alchemy and poetry, from Paul Celan to Ingeborg Bachmann and Rainer Maria Rilke.

Living and working in France since 1992, he notably took over the Grand Palais (Monumenta, 2007) and created a permanent commission for the Panthéon in 2020. His works are held in the collections of the world’s leading museums.
